Tu scendi dalle stelle (You Descend From The Stars)
Composed in the mid-18th century in Southern Italy by the holy Alfonso Maria de’ Liguori in the style of/after the Neapolitan Quanno nascette Ninno (“When the boy was born”), Tu scendi dalle stelle is, up until today, one of the most popular Christmas songs in Italy. It tells the story of how Jesus was born into the cold and poverty as a God that has become human.
The homophone choral setting is held simple and traditional. With the text transmission Du steigst herab vom Himmel ("You descend from heaven"), there now also is the possibility to perform this Christmas song in German.
